Terrie Milgate
Secretary & Sponsorship Officer
I moved to Trangie with my family in November 1964 when my mum and dad purchased the local transport business “Trangie Transport”. I have had trucks in my life since I was 7 years of age and my husband and I took over the transport business in 1999. In my early working years after leaving school I worked in the banking industry for 11 years. In 1993 and after having my family of 3 children I returned to work in the accounts Payable area for the Department of Agriculture Trangie, and then later became the Office Manager where I worked with 4 office staff and oversaw timesheets, pays and accounts payable for up to 98 staff members.
In 2003 my husband and I purchased the Lease of the Royal Hotel Trangie, which we held until October 2006. This was a different time in our lives, but we really enjoyed our time there.
2007 I was asked to help the Trangie Local Aboriginal Land Council for a period of 3 months, this turned into 6 months and after applying and being successful in gaining the job for the newly formed CEO position, I worked within that role for 16 years where I retired in March 2024. My role there included managing the organistions budgets, reporting, meetings and funding, managing social housing, writing policies and business plans, overseeing numerous staff and working as a team member with board members, staff and members of the organisation. During my time working for the Trangie Local Aboriginal Land Council I was able to secure funding that allowed the LALC to build a set of 6 one bedroom units for senior First Nations members costing 2.45 million dollars and funds to extend the Wungunja Cultural Centre costing Five Hundred thousand dollars.
My Voluntary roles throughout my career include:
· Held Executive positions for the Trangie Swimming Club, St John’s Parents and Friends Association, Trangie Action Group Inc., Trangie Truck and Tractor Show Inc.
· Committee Member of the Trangie Pre School and Trangie Retirement Centre
· Volunteering time and work at the Wungunja Cultural Centre, local Anglican Church events
· Community representative for Trangie Multi Purpose Patient Care
I have been awarded the Australia Day Citizen of the Year in 2017 and again in 2026 and have also had a mention in Parliament on 2 occasions by Dugald Saunders for my involvement in establishing the Wungunja Cultural Centre and my work with the Trangie Truck and Tractor Show. All of this has been wonderful but I do not ask for recognition of what I do, I just enjoy working for our community.
